PlayRank Matrix · Canada
Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information is involved when you read our independent games discovery guide, choose a browser preference, or contact the editorial team. It describes the practices of PlayRank Matrix and the choices available to readers in Canada.
Effective date: 20 October 2026
1. Who is responsible
PlayRank Matrix is an independent Canadian games discovery editorial project operated under its brand name. We publish comparisons and beginner guidance to help readers understand game categories and make their own choices. The site is not a game publisher, payment service, or account provider.
For a privacy question, access or correction request, or concern about information you sent us, write to [email protected]. The editorial support schedule is Monday to Friday, 09:00–17:00 Eastern Time, excluding Canadian public holidays. Please include enough context to identify your request, but do not send a password or financial information.
2. Information involved
Reading the guide does not require an account. If you choose to use a contact form, its fields ask for your name, email address, and message. You decide what to include in the message. Keep it relevant and avoid passwords, payment details, health information, or other sensitive personal information.
The site uses browser storage for a necessary preference: the consent choice is represented by the playrankmatrix_consent_v1 local storage key. A separate site_cookie_consent cookie may remember the choice for 31,536,000 seconds (one year). Browser search filters content already packaged with the site on your device; it does not send your search terms to a search service.
Your browser and the systems that deliver a website can technically exchange connection information, such as an IP address and requested page. We do not claim to collect or retain hosting logs, analytics, advertising identifiers, or device profiles as a feature of this guide. A form confirmation displayed in your browser only confirms that the page responded; it is not proof that a message was stored or emailed.
| Category | Examples | Provider | Purpose |
|---|---|---|---|
| Contact details | Name, email and a voluntarily written question | PlayRank Matrix, when you contact us | Read and respond to an enquiry |
| Preference | Consent choice in browser storage | This site in your browser | Remember your selection |
| Search terms | Words entered into site search | Your browser | Filter packaged page content locally |
3. Why information is used
We use a saved preference to remember the choice you made about browser storage, so the same choice is respected as you move between pages. The site also processes information needed to display its editorial content and make navigation and search usable.
If you email us or submit an enquiry, we use the details you chose to provide to understand and answer your question, consider a suggested correction, or follow up where clarification is needed. We do not sell reader enquiries. We do not use contact information to build advertising profiles or send unrelated promotional messages.
We try to collect only what is reasonably connected to these purposes. If a request can be handled without additional personal details, we will not ask you to provide them.
4. Consent and Canadian privacy principles
We follow applicable Canadian privacy requirements and principles, including the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) where it applies. The appropriate basis for handling information depends on the context and applicable law. For an enquiry, you choose to send information so we can respond to the request; for the necessary preference, storage supports the choice you make.
Consent should be meaningful: a choice should be understandable, tied to a clear purpose, and capable of being changed. The consent notice describes the preference being remembered. Rejecting optional categories does not prevent access to the guide. The site does not plan optional analytics or advertising trackers. You may revisit the choice using Cookie settings in the footer, or clear the site's stored data in your browser settings.
Withdrawing a browser preference affects future storage and presentation of the choice. It does not undo handling already completed before withdrawal, or prevent processing required to respond to an enquiry or meet a legal obligation.
6. Keeping and deleting information
For an enquiry received by email, our working retention period is up to 12 months after the question is resolved. This gives the editorial team a reasonable period to understand follow-up correspondence and maintain continuity. We aim to delete the correspondence earlier when you make a valid deletion request, unless a legal obligation or a necessary claim-related record requires continued retention.
The consent preference remains in browser storage for six months under the site's preference lifecycle, or until you clear it sooner. The separately named consent cookie has a one-year maximum duration as set by its expiry. You can remove either through browser settings; clearing site data may also reset the displayed choice. If the form only displays an acknowledgement and no message reaches an inbox, that acknowledgement does not create a contact record for us to retain.
When a retention period ends, we delete the information or remove identifying details where keeping an aggregate record is useful and lawful. A limited copy may remain temporarily in routine system backups, if any, until those backups cycle out; it is not restored for ordinary editorial use.
7. Safeguards
We use proportionate practical safeguards for the information handled through the editorial support process. Access to the support mailbox is limited to people who need to review or answer reader requests. We encourage readers to keep messages focused and to avoid sending sensitive details that are not needed to answer a question.
No method of internet transmission or electronic storage can be promised to be completely secure. If you believe a message has been sent to the wrong address, or you have a concern about how an enquiry was handled, contact [email protected] so we can assess the issue and take reasonable steps.
8. Your privacy choices
You may ask what personal information we hold about you, request correction of inaccurate information, or request deletion, subject to applicable legal requirements and exceptions. To make a request, email [email protected] with “Privacy request” in the subject and describe the information or interaction involved.
We aim to acknowledge and respond within 30 calendar days. If a request needs more time, applicable law permits an extension, or an exception affects what can be provided, we will explain the reason and the expected next step. We may ask for proportionate information to confirm that we are responding to the right person, but we will not ask for your account password.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you may raise a concern with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or the relevant provincial privacy regulator. The appropriate office depends on the organisation and the issue. You can also contact us first if you want us to review a concern directly.
9. Younger readers
The guide is general editorial reading and is available without an account. Game publishers set their own age ratings, content information, and terms. Parents and guardians should review those details and decide whether a particular game, online feature, or community is suitable for a young person.
Children under 13 should involve a parent or guardian before contacting the editorial team. We do not invite children to provide personal information. If a parent or guardian believes a child has emailed us personal information, they may contact [email protected] and request its removal. We will review the request and delete the information where appropriate, subject to any legal obligation.
10. Policy updates
This policy is effective 20 October 2026. We review it at least once each year and when the site's information practices materially change. A revised policy will show its updated effective date so readers can identify the current version.
If a new optional use requires consent, we will explain the purpose and provide a choice before relying on that use where required. Continued availability of the guide does not by itself mean that a reader has agreed to a materially different optional use. Questions about a revision can be sent to [email protected].
